Get in Agreement With God
Do you want to live a long, healthy, prosperous life? If yes, then you need to get in agreement with God and what He says and promises to you. What you focus on determines which path your life will take. In order to get into agreement with God, you need to have faith, get rid of all negative thoughts, attitudes, and outlooks on life and develop a positive attitude and a positive outlook on life, think positively, and believe God’s faithful promises and that you will see them happen in your life. The apostle Paul tells us in Philippians 4:8, “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”
Daily Bible study is an excellent place to start since faith is important and it is equally important to know what God’s promises are so you can believe in them. Hebrews 11:6 states, “It is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.” What is faith? Go back to verse 1 of Hebrews 11 which defines faith as “the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see.” It is important not just to read the Bible, but to make an effort to understand what you are reading and apply what you learn to your daily life. When you do this, you show that you are learning and growing, and that you have faith in God and that you believe he will honor the promises he makes in his word to you.
Having faith and studying the bible daily and applying what you learn to your everyday life are also good ways to get you to start thinking positively and to gain a positive attitude and a positive outlook on life. Once you have started living with a positive attitude, positive outlook on life and thinking positively, there are a couple of things you must do to stay positive and not revert back to the negative. There are some sacrifices you will need to make in order to remain positive and continue trusting God to honor his promises. But it is not as bad as it may currently sound to you.
The first change you will have to make in order to stay positive is to stop listening to the naysayers. You must ignore negative posts on Facebook, twitter, the news, or anywhere else you read about doom and gloom or how bad life is. You must also ignore your friends and family when they tell you why your dreams are unrealistic or impossible and any other negativity they throw at you such as any unflattering qualities they try to tell you that you have even if you don’t have such negative qualities. They may be well-meaning, but they do not see you the way God sees you and if they don’t believe you can make your dreams a reality, then they don’t believe in God or his promises. Proverbs 14:7 says, “Stay away from fools, for you won’t find knowledge on their lips.” Only God knows the dreams he placed in your heart and only God can help you make those dreams a reality. It is true that God will use people on earth to help you, particularly through opening doors for you, but understand it is God who talked to the person opening the door for you and no man can shut it.
The second thing you may need to do will be more difficult: when you realize that their negative words and negative attitude is affecting you and that you need to cut these people out of your life completely or love them from a distance and have limited contact with them. Once you are strong in your faith, it will not be as difficult because you will be able to ignore all of the negativity they spout and realize that they are speaking from their own limited point of view and not from God. Proverbs 12:26 says, “The godly give good advice to their friends; the wicked lead them astray.” Until you are strong in your faith, however, it may come to cutting loose the negative influences in your life and that is why it is considered a sacrifice. God will reward you for the sacrifices you willingly make and for working at honoring him and being obedient to him in every area of your life. Surround yourself with positive people who are living their dreams or are working to make their dreams a reality because they know it is possible with God working with them. When you are around people who encourage you, show you unconditional love and support, and have faith in God and in dreams coming true then you will be inspired and will be able to take the steps you need to take in faith to make your own dreams a reality.
The third change you have to make is to stop watching certain shows and listening to certain music that is all negative and is about the doom and gloom of the world about how life sucks and is unfair, the sad condition of today’s economy, or any other negative attitudes that any characters on the shows or lyrics in songs display. Filtering what you watch and what you listen to will help you stay focused on God and on his faithful promises and it will help you keep the new positive attitude and outlook you have on life and you will be able to keep thinking positively too. Watching documentaries, news shows, or any television shows or movies that predict gloom or are all about the bad stuff in the world and listening to music with similar messages will mess with your head if you’re not careful, which is why you will need to cut these things out of your life. It may not be easy at first, but there will come the day when you won’t even miss that kind of music, television, or movies anymore. Matthew 6:21-23 says, “Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be. Your eye is a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is good, your whole body is filled with light. But when your eye is bad, your whole body is filled with darkness. And if the light you think you have is actually darkness, how deep that darkness is!” When you watch shows and movies and listen to music that is inspirational and uplifting then you will have an easier time staying positive because you will find yourself feeling inspired.
Watching what thoughts you think and what words come out of your mouth is another thing you need to start doing. Be careful to make sure they are in alignment with God’s word and faithful promises. Speak God’s promises over your situation and over other people’s live too. Make sure that you do not let any negative thoughts slip out of your mouth for your words will prophesy what will happen. When you talk about your problems and how about things will never get better, you are going to make it happen so things don’t get better because what you focus on is what becomes reality. The deeper into God’s word you go, the more faith you will have and the easier it will be to speak only positive words out loud about your situation and about others. You need to train yourself to think positively though, while going through the process of making the other changes in your life such as doing daily bible study and filtering what you watch and listen to, and being careful whose words and advice you listen to. When you do this, you will be able to better control what you say. The apostle James tells us in James 3:8-10, “but no one can tame the tongue. It is restless and evil, full of deadly poison. Sometimes it praises our Lord and Father, and sometimes it curses those who have been made in the image of God. And so blessing and cursing come pouring out of the same mouth. Surely, my brothers and sisters, this is not right!”
Getting into agreement with God is the wisest thing you could ever do. Watch your life change for the better when you get rid of all of the filth and negativity and start living a righteous life pleasing to God and have a positive attitude and outlook on life. Doors will suddenly open for you that no man can shut and God’s grace will come pouring out over your life the stronger your faith is in the Lord and the more you are expecting good things to come to you, and the more pure the life you lead is. When you live a pure life, your thoughts, words and actions all stem from love. God is love so when you are deeply connected to God, you will think, do, and say things that are pleasing to God and that are in agreement with his Word and not only will your life change for the better, but the lives of those around you will also start changing for the better. You have the ability to make a positive difference in this world or a negative one. When you decide to be a positive voice in this world and a positive influence to others, you will see your own life improve as well as the lives of the people in your world. In Galatians 6:8-9 we are told that when our lives please the Spirit (the Holy Spirit, that is), we will receive eternal life and at just the right time, we will be blessed for doing good if we don’t give up. Therefore, through those encouraging verses, let us not stop doing good for others and let us start by guarding our hearts and minds from negativity and be careful what we think and say to and about others and about our own lives.
